Vets outplay in the Wild, Wild West
Bring on the Finals…
So why is the last regular season report always the hardest? Talk about writers block! Yet so much to report on in our final venture out west “to the other side”.The pearls were off – and so were the PEGS women (a dubious term for some – especially that one in the back who said ‘Man up guys’ in a way that made my head spin to do a quick shorts check – still not sure actually).
Some of our own women were turning some new tricks – Liesl showing what’s to come at Presentation night with her Pat Pong special: In her words, “the ball up the clacker trick†(there was a break in play of about 10 minutes while we waited for the retrieval process – apparently you do still have some pelvic floor strength).
Umpires too were not shy about getting in on the action – at one stage we resorted to a bully between them to determine which decision would be upheld. Wow! – There was a moment there like the stand off at the OK Corral – Macca at his Monday night stubbly best staring down the nuff nuff umpire from PEGS who had no idea (her highlight was when her brain nearly exploded with the power of telling some unruly youngster to keep the biffo to herself after a bit of argy bargy with her PEGS opponent – second card of the season if I’m not mistaken.)
The rush of memories of similar school girl reprimands was well worth it, as the biffo finally resulted in our first goal to (Voldemort’s cousin) she who shall not be named. 1:0 up. (Sporting Pulse hasn’t kept a reliable tally – does this give naming rights to the Coleman medal?? Or is it a draw with Dale, in which case will it be the D’Andrea Evans Trophy?? The D’Evans? THe D’andy Evans? THe D’oily D’andy D’evans…. The possibilities are endless when you’ve got the time.)
After an unlikely PEGS goal saw us tied up, we quickly and calmly responded with a strong goal – Lovely pass from George into the circle, saw the ball crossed to Lisa Shero at the goal mouth – welcome to the scoreboard Lisa. Lisa is the second to bring her own cheer squad – I’m not sure Charlotte knows the rules, but she’s giving Chris a run for his money in the noise level stakes…
Great games to Liesl, Daws, Lisa, Tina, Felicity this week. Gill too did her usual best with some very tough saves to keep our defence record the best in the competition. Overall, a good team effort which saw us linking up a lot better than the late night the previous week. (Rumour has it that Felicity’s fan base of 5 even found her new address and stalked her all the way from Altona back to her new home in Camberwell – even pulling up in the driveway and demanding beer…. She thought it was just the friendly new neighbours wearing Kew shirts…)
Another good win ladies! And an Australian Idol worthy rendition of the Cumber song, complete with the Press corps giving us the attention we have long deserved.
Who’d have thought when we were being beaten 5:0 on a regular basis in Summer that we’d be saying it: Bring on the Finals!!
