Metro 3 North v Old East Malvern

Once again a social function is scheduled the night before our 11am Sunday match, strangely enough Saturday we still had no goal keeper organised. So Gid and Brad went on a 3 tribes recruiting mission. We did of course obey the metro 3 – 3 hour rule (3 hours of deep sleep is better than 12 of bad sleep) and managed to drag ourselves out of bed. Luckily for us we were able to import Dov straight from Wales, via 3 tribes, to our team.

Ironically our designated driver on the night, Ian decided to sleep in through the entire match. We were out to beat Old East Malvern who had beaten us in the first round, due to lack of numbers. This time we were sporting the full 11 with our international goalkeeper, and a few new recruits.

Kew started well with Gidon scoring the first goal after about 10 minutes. Shortly after, Gidon hit a ball to the post with Nick Lane deflecting it in. However we became a bit complacent with our lead and allowed the hangovers to kick in, letting OEM score one back.

Matt Dirico had a number of great chances but somehow failed the ball in the net. We picked it up and Tim put in another goal before half time. With a comfortable lead we put the pressure on OEM in the second half, dominating most of the possession.

Time was stopped for our keeper Dov to go throw up in a bin for awhile, he did however recover to do some solid goalkeeping work.

The highlight of the match was Seb’s backstick lob from the spot, which the opposition keeper disregarded, as we all watched it slowly sail into the goals. We ended the match 5-1 up, for our second victory of the season.
