Family Fun Day A Huge Success
Last Saturday a HUGE crowd gathered at Elgar to celebrate the Kew Hockey Club Family Fun Day.
The festivities kicked off very early with The Hockey Show focusing on the young guns of the Under 11 Pennant A team. The lads turned it on for the cameras with a 7-0 win, and then were interviewed in true “Hockey Show” style about the game, relationships and other pop culture issues. Very interesting for 10 year olds – and you can see the results on Channel 31 at 9.30pm Wednesday (and check your local guides for other times).Onto a bunch of Under 9 games, where the Kew Kids acquitted themselves very nicely indeed. Our teams had two wins and a draw – with a net result of 12 goals to 4 across the three Kew Under 9 teams.
Then the fun really started… The Kids disco kicked in with the Kids Disco faves – the Macarena, Crazy Frog and the Bus Stop. Some young Mums and Simon Cleave were seen busting some moves – no doubt preparing for Three Tribes later that evening.
Outside other Kids were in the Jumping Castle – the watchful eyes of SEKA ensured no Public Liability issue arose. Sustenance was provided by Sausages and Cakes from the Cake Stall in preparation for THE BIG LITTLE LEAGUE game. Heaps of kids joined in a couple of Little League games as the curtain raiser for the State League boys – and then they all formed a guard of honour to welcome the big kids onto the pitch.
All up about 150 extra kids and parents were there for the State League games – many parents new to hockey were amazed to see how fast the game is at the top level.
A fantastic day all around – big congrats to Geraldine and Sylvia for putting it all together. Also many thanks to about 20-30 others who simply jumped in to help with the Disco, the BBQ, the jumping castle, and the Little League games – YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE…WELL DONE!
