Womens SL2 v Albury

ROAD TRIP No 1- Albury (loss 3-2)

Another opportunity for the 1sts girls to leapfrog their way back to where we think we should be on ladder this season. But, we didn’t.

With Sarah out representing Victoria and Lucy out representing stage divers we needed to bring in the big guns… Phoebe Smith made her way back from a stint of European hockey.

Kew started out very quietly.  Kate Gleeson, with a pre-match cocktail of milk and gluten, was outstanding for the first 20 minutes.  The drive down the right side gave us our first few attempts at goal.  With Kirsten and Brooke directing traffic from the centre, Kew capitalised through some quick passes from the strikers to let Kew’s “X-factor”, Bambi, hit one straight past the keeper.  Half time, 1-0 up.

The second half seemed to be able to defend any corner variation Albury threw at them.  Then back into our attack through the tackling machine, aka Lisa, and lefty Cazzy, to get the pass away to Kirsten who finished off with style with a chip past the goalie(or was it around?) Kew 2-0 up.

What happened next is erased from my memory but we lost 3-2 with 4 seconds to go. Thanks to Chels and Bambi for doubling up this week…it meant a lot to the club.

The 3rd half… the preparation for the final half of the day was meticulous.  3.5 hours in 3 cars made for a fine tuned night.  Fines, love songs and dedications started the evening and then out to have a CLUB night with the men’s 1sts?!  How Novel… boys and girls together supporting each other?

In fine form there was some more attacking play by our girls and even some defensive!  A scoring opportunity by Bec was consolidated with some English influence.  Katie James took coaching juniors to a whole new level and Kate Gleeson tried all evasive plays she has ever been taught but to no avail crumbling to the pressure of an experience striker.  The old tarts of the team now need to re-mortgage their houses after spending 3 hours playing on the formidable pokies.  Thanks to Brooke for cherry picking their hard earned with one spin of the wheel!

Thanks also to the Johnsons for putting on breakfast for all the tired team on Sunday morning. I imagine it was a little more savoury than the DUTCH OVEN that drove back earlier heated by Kat.
