Mens PE v Monash Elimination Final
There is only one thing better than playing hockey… and that’s playing finals hockey. It was a magnificent morning to wake up on for the first day of the hockey play-offs. The e-word went around early from the Coach – drink water like its beer.
The warm September weather brought out a crowd and in order to stay cool and look hot, we wore our alternative strip. With Dirico a late scratching, A. Chang was brought in as an emergency.
Cracker remained out still not fully recovered from his self inflicted injury from Geelong, but was well enough to run the bench. The new water-based Monash surface was open for use and thanks to our new stablemates from WSL2 were had been training at the SHC and were prepared for the wet-wicket.
The outcome was clear, Monash were the higher placed team so a deadlock after extra time would be enough to put them through. We had to win (preferably in normal time) and we had a hell of a lot more to play for.
The Fantastic Fours got off to a great start not showing any signs of stage fright and we were soon rewarded as a short corner was converted by TC. More corners and forward skirmishes soon gave us 2 more goals.
Kew went into the main break with a 3-nil lead, yet we far from satisfied as we were reminded of Metro 1 result. Monash came out fighting which was to be expected and this was the wake up call we needed.
The Kew mid field continued to impress and while Monash had plenty of chances to score and could only manage a goal in the dying minutes. The e-word went around later from the Coach – drink beer like its water.
Final Score: 3-1 (HT: 3-0)
Goals: TC, Jez, Coutta
