Mens PE v Dandenong Preliminary Final
After another Thursday night session at the Harp, there was general optimism going into a game against a tough opponent who were only team to have beaten us twice during the season.
Why a team deserves a home prelim final in a grade that is treated like Metro is a mystery. Why a disgraceful surface like Dandenong is approved for finals, let alone H&A games, is also. Despite these inconveniences, the game would soon get under way with a Dandenong umpire at one end.
We began to put the water away as the mercury rose to hit the forecast top of 25. Again with the prospect of ‘no next week’, the rule put to us was simple: Play as One. We got off to a promising start scoring, but Dandenong would reply and commence the goal-for-goal arm-wrestle.
While many words can be used to describe the Warriors, one is: deceptive. They didn’t look fast, durable nor focused, yet in hot conditions they managed to hold it together and hang in there. They were determined not to go out in straight sets and with the power-play against them they scored yet another leveler. The game looked like it would go into golden goal extra time, but before we knew it the Warriors scored again.
Thanks must go to those who ventured out to support us and to Gary who did a great job running the bench.
Final Score: 5-6
Goals: Schwarz, Mario, Lewis, TC, Chang
