Women’s M1N v Footscray

Footscray 5 def Kew 2

It was family day at Footscray on Saturday and Kew proved early to be strong-willed by not giving into the temptations of the fairy floss and jumping castle on offer.

We started the game in a shambles without our coach and two players, Matt, Claire and Em Morrow, who got stuck in traffic on the West Gate Bridge. As a result, some players started the game without actually knowing what position they were in! Footscray got an early lead but Kew soon levelled the score through a great goal by Vanessa off a short corner. We went into half time 2-1 down and were fired up to take them on in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, despite another good short corner goal from Vanessa, Footscray managed to score 3 more times in the 2nd half (one goal deceivingly going over the back’s head after it popped up off the goalie’s pads and another being a fluky reverse stick flick). Mia got some brownie points from the umpire after she told him he was her favourite umpire for giving her the benefit of the doubt after a fairly obvious push over the baseline, which should have resulted in a short corner!

Later that night, it was just the two Fi’s who represented the 3rds at the Harp 80s Night – next time we need more T-Birds coming along to represent!!
