Women’s SL2 v Werribee
Kew 6 def Werribee
After a long pre-season the Kew girls were itching to play a real game of hockey. With a skills based focus since January and phrases such as “Get the pace, Get in their face, 45degrees is ace, Two Hands in placeâ€, to help us out we were ready to be a strong and dominant team with a vision of promotion at seasons end.
Healthy numbers at trainings made selections easy in that each of the 4 teams was listed with a bench but difficult with so many players pushing their way into higher teams than last year.
Another chance to whack the Werribee team…they will regret ever using the clothesline against us. Kew girls have long memories…
Our focus was simple…just think like a crow (arc, arc) and a snake. We gave Werribee a lesson on how to play hockey. Discipline and dominance.
Our captain, Brooke, was the first to score for 2009 which helped open the floodgates. Continual pressure allowed for 2 more 1st half goals…one a cherry pick by Cazzy from a Bec smash from the top. The onslaught did not let up in the 2nd half and Kew scored 3 more times. With 19 corners we could let ourselves be as little disappointed but we did keep to our team rules throughout.
We look forward to meeting Monash next week for a twilight match on Saturday.
Goals: Brooke 1, Ange 1, Cazz White 2, Kirsten 2
