Men’s M1W v PEGS (R2)
KEW 3 defeated PEGS 2
Goals: Simon Cleave, Barney Allen, Drew Morrison
On Sunday the Men’s 5ths made the long trip out to PEGS new home ground (next to Melbourne Airport). The ground is part of PEGS new playing fields complex and one suspects they got the land cheap.
As Farouk said in the Castle …â€He say plane fly overhead, drop value. I don’t care. In Beirut, plane fly over, drop bomb. I like these planes.â€
We started well despite the howling gale. With some neat play Drew opened the account early. While we dominated play we couldn’t find the net again.
They scored early in the 2nd half from a corner but we responded immediately with great team goal finished by Barney. Cleavey then made it 3-1 from close range.
They nicked a 2nd corner goal after the final whistle which slightly flattered the score. Fitzy had a cracking game making some fantastic saves.
We welcomed back stalwarts Pat Nicholls, Cuz, Benny Hartung, a familiar face in Jez and two new faces in Luke Carden and Hayden Grigg. The later three added some badly needed pace.
So we are two from two and face Geelong at Elgar next Sunday.
BTW – PEGS join an exclusive number of Melbourne hockey venues who do steamed DIM SIMS very well. Worth a visit if you are on your way to the airport.
