Women’s SL2 v Monash (R2)

Kew VS Monash Uni
5pm @ Monash, Saturday
3-0 Win

After a long and very thorough presentation to the VHA from our ‘lawyer in waiting’, the Kew girls were back on for the twilight game on Saturday.  The case put forward from Monash that the game clashed with their pub crawl was just not quite good enough to move a State League women’s game to Sunday at 6.30pm!

And yet, when we took to the field and the heavens opened we started thinking another time slot would have been preferable.

The Firsts welcomed back Amy Watts to the forward line.  This inclusion was justified early with Amy slotting away the necessary goal to get the ball rolling.  Again, Kew looked the goods but with terrible rain and a heavy pitch, ‘finishing’ was difficult.  A short corner was saved but not cleared and Cazzy was in the right spot to ‘pop’ it in.

Our half time talk by the pool is difficult to remember…maybe someone had filled our drink bottles with slurpies as it felt like our brains were frozen.

Our second half had 3 highlights.  Two from corners and one from Larry left half …

* Katie James hitting the cross bar from a drag flick.
* Phoebe Smith upright trapping and smashing a goal from the top.
* Bec Gale solidly holding position to show her strength over the ball. Her Monash opponent did not play for the rest of the game after this clash.

Good game in the rain girls.  Let’s look forward to Geelong at the SHC on Saturday.

Goals: Amy Watts, Cazz White, Phoebe Smith
