Women’s SL2 v Geelong (R3)

VS Geelong 4-0 win

A full day of Kew games at the SHC was a great way to spend a sunny Saturday.  The first battle on Saturday though was the traffic.  Many Kew girls nearly lost the fight around the zoo but we did manage to get to the warm up with 12 players.  The 12 soon fell to 11 with Kimmy going down with an ankle whilst hitting up.  This led to some last minute changes which seemed to suit the Kew girls down to a tee.

A committed supporter of the Kew womens firsts was quoted as saying, “The first 10 minutes of the game was the best I have seen the girls play in 10 years.”

The forward movement was slick and the pace caught Geelong off guard.  They looked like rabbits stunned in headlights as they conceded a corner.  Straight hit just below the back board and Kew back into attack.  Brooke, back at centre half, smashed another top of the circle into the right corner.  2-0.  Though Kew was in attack for the entire half, finishing let us down and we went into half time with only 2 against our name and another injury with Kirsten going down and out of the game just on the whistle.

Injuries were testing us.  Most players were on the field for the full 70 minutes. This will only do us good in weeks to come but at the time it was hard to continue to put a full press in place.  Through this came another trade mark Brooke goal from the top.  3-0.  And now another injury with Amy getting a back swing in the face…or did she burn the chops??

Kew did not let up and the high strikers combined to get a goal through unrelenting attacking pressure.  On ya Sall.

Great game girls.  Now bring on the big guns next week out at Moorabin.

Goals: Brooke Johnson 2, Ange Allen 2
