Women’s M2S v ECHO (R4)
Another round, another challenger and this week it was Echo. This week the 4ths also welcomed Sarah Hobson to the team & the club. Each week is a learning experience for the 4ths in the Metro 2 league as they find the competition is tougher and fitter than last year and this week was no exception.
While Kew had the early running of the first half, through strong offensive plays that saw Sarah, Leah, Cip & Jess R combine to cut through ECHO’s defence. This resulted in a desperate effort around the goal face including a number of saved shots and resulted in a penalty stroke. This was calmly taken and converted by Sarah. Echo started to control the game leading in to half time and really tested the Kew defence which held solid through a number of great saves by Linda in Goals. The second half was a game of survival of the fittest and fast breaks were the name of the game as both teams pushed hard for the win.
The Kew girls dug deep and through a field goal from Sarah, Jess N and then Anna in the final minutes they had won and justifiably collapsed on the ground. Unfortunately coach Keamy had missed a goal somewhere during the game and thought it was a draw. Next week he will be writing the score down. Kew 4 – Echo 3.
