Men’s M1E v Casey (R5)

KEW 5ths Metro 1 East v Casey
18:30 Saturday 169th May at SHC

The Mighty K’s of the 4B variety headed to the SHC to face off against Casey looking to continue their winning ways. This was going to be put to the test with several late withdrawals and some quick organisation to get a full team onto the field.

The game was evenly poised with both teams having opportunities and rueing the severe bounce of the water base in the first half which ended in a scoreless deadlock.

The second half saw much of the same but you could see the lack of player rotations taking its toll on the Cumbers as fatigue started to seep in. Casey capitalised on this and opened the scoring, but this awakened KEW to press more around the D and were duly awarded with their first penalty corner of the game but the scoreboard did not change.

A moment of sheer brilliance from Tristan Harris soon followed as his run from the left of the D through four opposition players and the resulting tomahawk from the top into the top left corner drew the scores level.

KEW were in the ascendancy was again and kept pressing forward but could not add to their tally. It looked as if the game was heading for a draw until a Casey penalty corner 30 seconds from time resulted in a scrambled goal giving them a virtually unassailable lead with so little time left.

Despite the scoreline, the 5ths matched Casey’s 13 players through out the entirety of the game – except for where it counted around the goal mouth.

Full time score: 1-2 (HT 0-0)
Goals: Harris (1)

Best: Roberts, Keam, Harris, Fuente
