Men’s PE v Yarra (R6)

Perfect conditions, perfect time, what other incentive does a hockey player need to play for Kew? This is exactly what the 9 Kew players where thinking when they took to the field against a young, well coached Yarra Valley thirds team.

Just exactly where Dan and Rob from the mother country go? And did they kidnap young Hayden Griggs as well? To make the pre game vibe just a little more exciting goal keeper Julian announced ” I left my goalie gloves at home”!!!

At the fifteen minute mark, the Kew boys were still only fielding 9 players, (sorry, make that 8 after DK was sent off for running too quickly) and the score was still 0 – 0. Finally, at the 16 minute mark the cavalry arrived with “God save the Queen” pumping from the stereo, Rob and Dan ran straight on to the field after greeting the rest of us with “ALLO GOVNER”!!!! Hayden eventually turned up after been told by the coach (whom was sinking bourbons in Warrnambool) to go to Yarra Valley College!!!!

Finally, with 12 players at the game, sunshine, a big crowd, the Mighty fours turned it on. A DK short corner bullet opened the card, subsequent field goals to: Chang of the Simon variety, Dan (the least he could do), and young Hayden in only his second Pennant game and first for the year.

The last ten minutes was a struggle as the Kew boys ran out of legs, but thanks to some great defending from Ben Tibbals, Cracka and Julian in the net, a clean sheet prevailed. Special mention to Stephen Coutts who played a blinder at all ends of the ground! Many thanks to Yarra for lending us goalie gear, it was much appreciated.

Final score: Kew 4 def Yarra Valley 0.

P.S Kieren, hope the  post game text message stating we lost 0 -9, didn’t ruin your weekend too much!!!
