Women’s Vets v Altona (R6)

Final score:  Altona 4 – Kew 0

Kew made the trek across town to Altona this week, and with a couple of our recent strong performers missing from the forward line we knew we were going to be in for a challenge.

Things got off to a bad start, with three of our players coming via the scenic route and the remaining 9 taking to the field anxiously awaiting a glimpse of the missing vehicle turning into the car park.  The opposition were quick to take advantage of our compromised position and put two in the net in quick succession within the first few minutes. Feeling a little like woolly white mammals on the way to the abattoir, heads were hanging low as we made our way back for the third center pass of the game after only 5 minutes.

Then the cavalry arrived!  Shin pads and mouth guards were hurriedly inserted and we had a full compliment of players on the ground.  The patient began to stabilize and the score was held to two nil at the break.

The second half saw some good plays from Kew – we had several chances, but couldn’t manage to claim back the lost ground.  As legs became weary two more goals were conceded, making the final score 4 – nil.  This week’s opposition was one of the more experienced we have come up against, and although the final score was disappointing there was evidence of real improvement throughout this Kew side and cause for optimism as we head into round 7.
