Women’s SL2 v StK Powerhouse (R7)
Kew VS StK/PH
1-2 (loss)
We knew this game would be hard. We have had a healthy rivalry with Powerhouse since the ‘90s. The win/losses would be about even. But this 2009 game was about ‘where we are at’. It was a good gauge of our position amongst the top 4. And we probably got a C-.
But for the few spectators who braved the icy conditions they certainly were treated to an intense and highly paced game of women’s hockey.
A fall away defence was opted for to try and negate the Powerhouse way. Tough for the Kew girls but the first 10 minutes did shake them up. A couple of corners were forced and a superb drag flick was nailed by Katie James. The first half was won by the Kew girls with the White girls having a day out…no one can keep up with the ‘White Hot’ duo.
The second half was equally as tough. Powerhouse had their ‘umpire trasher’ sent off. Kew girls should have capitalised on this. But it went the way of the House girls. Another soft goal 8 minutes into the second half. 1-1. Bugger. Kew still dominated in some areas of the field, particularly the mid field with Lisa and Brooke and their hardness on the ball. The problem was that Powerhouse looked more dangerous when they had quick turnovers. They scored again. 2-1 down.
A draw would have been a good measure of where the Kew girls are in relation to TEMs and Powerhouse but we let ourselves down with a couple of lapses in concentration. Perhaps the week off will fire us all up for the road trip to Bendigo and then Round 9’s blockbuster.
