Women’s Vets B V Brunswick (R8)
Kew 0 – Brunswick 0
The weather may have been bleak and soggy but the action certainly wasn’t in the Women’s Vets B clash between Kew and Brunswick at the State Hockey Centre this week.
The match had a lot more action than the scoreboard would suggest, and the Kew girls really felt like things were coming together. There were some great individual performances – the defenders did a sterling job, with Felicity putting together her game of the season so far, and Penny making some impressive saves including one off the glove that we all thought was a goner. However there were also some encouraging signs of great team efforts – better use of each other and the whole field of play were rewarded as we found ourselves more and more at the attacking end of the game.
Kew continued to put the pressure on right through to the end, but unfortunately we couldn’t quite get one through to score. There was an audible sigh of relief from the opposition at the final whistle, a subtle recognition that the Brunswick girls were happy to escape from this one with a draw. It was disappointing that we weren’t able to take home a win this week, but the continuing signs of improvement in this relatively new team were still cause for celebration.
