Women’s SL2 v Bendigo (R8)

SL2 VS Bendigo

3-1(win)

A group of 12 girls, 1 coach, 1 manager, 2 injured players and 2 VERY dedicated parents made the trip to Bendigo to view the Archibald exhibition.  After discussing our favourite painting over a cup of tea and scones we eventually made our way to the hockey ground.

With a couple of ‘outs’ a major reshuffle was required.  New positions and new players were the order of the day.  Flexibility.  Great work to Sarah Myers in her first game back too.

An hour and a quarter was perhaps a little excessive for a warm-up…but we certainly did not hit the field like we had come to the ‘GO’ to play.

Bendigo scored the first goal.  That shook up the team a little…now for some action.  The mid field were tough and the backs were tougher.  Katie James cleverly had a Bender chick sent off.  We should have capitalized, but, alas we didn’t.

But something sparked our most senior player to ‘turn it on’.  Brilliance by Lisa in the circle led to 3 quick goals.  The first was a Crazy Cazzy goal.  Time seemed to stop as this ‘shinguardless’, rednut effortlessly pushed a goal to the right of the gaolie.  1-1.  The next goal was scored from on the ground by Stazza…and the celebration could rival any World Cup Soccer player.  2-1.  Bendigo fell away.  The persistence down the right was too much for Bendigo and our veteran took on the goalie.  Again, from the ground, Lisa got a square ball away for a cool minded Kirsten to put away.  3-1 at half time.

Kew’s second half was dominant.  The corner count was double figures but goals eluded us.  This was a disappointing factor in a good half of hockey.

Kew girls need to put in a really hard week on the training track.  A Sunday game against top of the table TEMs is on the agenda.

Goals: Cazzy White, Lisa Stewart, Kirsten Beechem
