Women’s PB v TEM (R11)

Round 11 Pen B

Kew VS TEMs 2-0( loss)

Kew is suffering badly with the ‘mid season blues’ with 18 outs for this round. There were many downsides to this but also a great upside. Issy Hassell was able to make her debut in the 2nds. With 5 players under 18, our chances of a win over the much older TEMs side did look a possibility.

We all must have been too windblown to concentrate for the first 5 minutes as an easy short corner was conceded and a straight shot was scored by the TEMs women. Disappointing. It seemed like Kew was playing catch-up from then on, even though we played far superior hockey.

We found space in the mid field with Soph and Flicka able to carry and pass to our insides, Sarah and Issy. Even our through balls to our wings; speedy Em and ever brave Mel, were quite clever. This allowed penetration into our attacking circle throughout the game and Kew looked dangerous. Unfortunately, our corners were not the usual slick affair. How on Earth can 4 corner pushers be unavailable? Well done to captain Chels for putting her hand up to help out. We got a few goodies away but sometimes with age, wisdom comes, and the very wise women on the right post made 2 incredible saves.

The second goal that TEMs put away was forgettable and really the score line of 2-0 does not reflect the hockey played. Ally was tenacious in her tackles as full back. Caitlin was only required a couple of times, also indicating our dominance within the game. Vanessa was excellent in the centre with her ‘cool head’ and determination.

All have a good nights sleep on Friday for our very important clash with Hawthorn this weekend.
