Men’s PB v Southern (R13)
Kew 2 – Southern United 1
Defence prevails.
With family day in full swing and the smell of roast beef rolls wafting over the ground it was important that at 12:30 on Sunday PB were ready to concentrate on one of the most important games of the season. Sitting just outside the top 4 and playing 3rd a win would see us fight our way into finals contention.
Having played together under new coach Harps for three weeks, his simple messages have started getting through and the first half was close to the best hockey PB have played this year. One goal up at half time and with the defence playing exceptionally well, we started the second half with confidence. Unfortunately a mid-field error let Southern level the scores. In a tight finish to the game both teams had chances. Fortunately our defence was superior and one goal to us was enough to win the game.
An incredible tight game has again shown how even the PB competition is. Although it is going to be a tough fight to secure a finals spot, this win has shown the PB team is more than capable. Best game of the season by most of the team but special mention to Chopper in the net and full backs Alders and Reidy.
