Women’s SL2 v Southern (R13)

3-1(loss)

The anticipation during the week for this game was justified.  3 teams all sharing 30 points and only separated by goal difference on the top of the ladder.  This was Kew’s opportunity to leap frog and hold a top 2 position for 2009.

The Kew family day was running a successful and fun filled event.  The Cumber had outplayed the Bendigo Bank pig.  Momentum was with us…until the game before had a rare, but serious accident, which held play up by 30 minutes.  We re-warmed up and tried to re-focus on the task.

The first 20 minutes of Kew’s game was brilliant.  Perhaps the girls liked playing to a crowd.  Cazzy nailed a great goal for Kew to put us in front.  So many opportunities created.  So many opportunities just missed.  Had any of these abundant chances gone in…the results could have been so different.

The remainder of the first half was tough but we kept to our theme of pressure.

Unfortunately, the second half did not swing the way we wanted.  Moorabin moved mid-fielders in a way that created confusion for us.  They found space and penetrated our defence.  Goal scored. 1-1.  An arm wrestle of a game continued…more missed opportunities by Kew.  Moorabin scored again.  Panic. 2-1.  Kew’s corner defenders did a great job keeping out around 10 corners in a row.  (The forward line had a cup of tea at this point.)  Still the game was fought out in a tough and aggressive manner but Moorabin were the team that managed to take advantage of their few chances whereas Kew, with their plentiful opportunities, did not.

“No one likes to lose. Particularly to teams than we are better than.”

These wise words the entire team agrees with.

Look forward to a hard week on the track to iron out the problems that arose on the weekend.
