Women’s Vets B v Altona (R15)

Altona 4 def Kew 0

Your humble author of the Women’s Vets B match report has been struck down with flu and out for the last 3 weeks, but we are now back on the map!  Recent weeks have been a bit of a roller coaster ride, with a nil all draw against Footscray, followed by a rather depressing scoreline against Camberwell in Round 13.  Round 14 saw a 2-0 win in Hawthorn, with the highlight being a maiden goal from our enthusiastic Maltese Falcon Angele, just a couple of weeks before she is set to fly off into the sunset.

Unfortunately the rollercoaster took a bit of a dip this round, in a challenging match against Altona.  The Kew girls went out hard and the first few minutes of play looked promising with some great teamwork and some good early chances.  However we found our shots on goal constantly foiled by some very fancy footwork coming from our opposing goal keeper, and were unable to break through the final line of defence.

Altona stepped up the pressure and had two on the board at the break.  The opening of the second half once again gave us plenty of cause for optimism but unfortunately no goals.  A brief lull in the enthusiasm of the Kew team gave way to two more quick goals, and our fate was decisively sealed.

The match certainly wasn’t as dismal as the scoreline would suggest – we had plenty of attacking play and lots of chances, and another Monday night enjoyed by all.
