Women’s SL2 v Yarra (R15)
Kew VS YarraÂ
While the coach is away…the mice will play. Is that how the saying goes?
The Kew women really needed a win over Yarra. Playing early on a Sunday again…could this lead to another costly result? Luckily no. We had a good solid win to get the momentum back with Kew before the run into the finals.
The game started with great pace. For the first 20minutes the ball did not even go into our defensive 25. This allowed for backs to play aggressive hockey confidently. Continual pressure finally paid off with a superb, flat cross finding the left wings stick. 1-0. Unrelenting forwards kept the Yarra forward on their toes. First corner and Sall Smart nailed our newish (and pretty reliable variation). 2-0.
We headed into the half time talk eager to hear what our ‘coach of the round’ had to say. Forwards were being heavily marked and tactics on how to capitalise on this were discussed.
Our second half of hockey was a great display of discipline and good ball movement. The fact we didn’t score takes away from the standard that was achieved.
Round 16 presents as a mini final for Kew. A win here could really set us up in a good position in the top 4. It would also be a tool for psyching out Powerhouse when we meet them again in the finals.
Thanks to Cleave for coming to Thursday’s training and for his time and hockey knowledge on game day.Â
Goals: Ange Allen, Sall Smart
