Men’s M1W v OMs (R16)

OMG (4) drew Kew (4)

Round 16 presented an opportunity to the Sopranos of assuring ourselves a place in the top four with two games still to play – we just needed to win.  Without the home ground advantage we were always going to be tested.  We lost two men on the day, reducing our bench to one, and the wind was so strong it blew three of our players behind the net during the second half.  The facilities on the other hand were second to none and I for one was very impressed with the new Barney Allen Hockey Centre down by the bay.

Let’s be honest though, the hockey itself was ordinary.  Apart from occasional patches of decent play, our passing wasn’t up to scratch and we weren’t using the space that the opposition afforded us.  Cleavy offered an unusual explanation for our poor first half performance, which was both untrue and unsettling.  The player in question was hard at work in Erinsborough all week, and at no time paid conjugal visits to anyone else’s wife.  If the intention was to re focus the team, it failed.  The second half didn’t improve, and with three KEW yellow cards OMG were back in the game.  In the end they hit as many goals as we scored – the result 4-4.  Jim’s esky was the winner on the day with the addition of an unprecedented 72 tinnies.  This week we play Greensborough in a must win.  In recent years we have shown form at this end of the season – we’ll need it now.

Goals: Hillsy, Charlie, Pat & Lachie

Slabs: Drew, Yabba, Pat.
