Women’s Vets B v Brunswick (R17)

Brunswick 1 def Kew 0

Last week the Kew Vets girls came up against Mentone in a match that turned out to be a demonstration in the number of ways that one can attack the goal without actually managing to score.  That encounter ended in a disappointing 5 nil loss, and in this weeks clash against Brunswick we were hoping to restore our confidence and prove that we are better at hockey than we are at Trivia.

The match started off well with a full turnout and the promise of a competitive match against a well matched opposition on our home turf.  The early part of the match saw Kew get plenty of attacking play, although a little too much enthusiasm at times led to a few too many breaches of that annoying five metre rule and some easy give-aways to the opposition.

We came on for the second half with the score still at nil all, and were still hoping we might get a win out of this one until Brunswick slipped in a goal early in the second term.  Once again we seemed to have every chance to recover, but “plenty of opportunities but no conversions” seems to have been the story of our season so far.  In the end we couldn’t claw back an equaliser.  The one nil loss was a little disappointing considering what might have been, but in the end any sorrow at the result paled into insignificance against the emotional farewell to our friend and fighter, Angele, as she flies back to Malta next week.  So long, Maltese Falcon!  We will miss you!
