Women’s PB v Essendon (R17)
This week we welcomed Kimmie into the side after her European Adventures, she took up position on the back line with Chels and Caitlin. Steph came back into the 2′s this week and played again on the half line with the reliable Soph and Vanessa the undresser.
The forward line was the ever reliable Bambi, Mel, Charlotte, Tina and Jess playing another fill in game in the 2′s. We had a bench with Alyson, things were exciting. A really important game against Essendon. Things started well, we didn’t let Essendon score in the first half, even better.
We managed to score 2 goals, one that raised up into the circle after a tackle and came down near Tina who battled with the goal keeper and put it in on the right,
The next goal was superb, Chels picked the ball off the Essendon battery in a short corner, got it out to Soph, who passed to Vanessa, who then angled it to Mel who managed to get it into the circle to Charlotte who put it in after moving the goal keeper. It was like a drill at training! Great team effort! (order of passes and people may be slightly incorrect, can’t remember). The goal was made even better by the loud crowd that stayed to watch!
Half time: 2:0 is not a safe score…the team was feeling good…could we hold the win
The second half sore some creative umpiring and Vanessa managed to get sent off for a minor offense, the team played well in attack but we could not keep the ball out of the goals and Essendon came back with 3 goals!!
So, a disappointing loss. but next week we play at Footscray, at 2:00 on Saturday before the men’s Pen C and E games so come early and cheer us on for our final important win of the season … we hope!
