Women’s SL2 v Bendigo (R17)
Kew vs Bendigo
Never let ladder position dictate how to approach a game…but we did feel a little more relaxed this week against Benders. We had a win against then in pre season and first time around and they really were no match to Southern who thrashed them last week.
A very settled line-up went into the game with familiar strategies and use of the cursive.
Bendigo really did make it worth their 2 hour drive. They were tough on the ball and were tough on their opponents. They had devised tactics to ‘mark’ our play-makers. Luckily we have 13 play-makers so when they fussed about particular players, others stood up. In front of one of our better home crowds for the year we scored through in-form Amy. It was a real team goal and did put us up 1-0 at half time.
We needed to lift in the second half to prove that we can make it in the finals. 50-50 balls needed to go Kew’s way. A great right side piece of play through Lisa allowed for Amy to use her pace and skill to smash a goal in from the top of the circle to the left corner. Kew 2-0 up.
Field goals were the flavour for the game and Cazzy scored the next goal. Kew 3-0 up with a real sniff at more.
Our pressure was excellent for the second half and our dominance was evident. A final corner for the game produced a fantastic straight shot from Brooke.
Great work girls…bring on TEMs next week.
A note to all Cumber readers that TEMs is having a Breast Cancer awareness day at the game next week. The women’s 1sts will be wearing pink ribbons and donations will be collected at the TEMs clubrooms for this worthy cause.
Goals: Amy Watts 2, Cazzy White Brooke Johnson
