Men’s M3N v Footscray (EF)
Kew 2 – Footscray 3 The KEW boys all arrived well and truly pumped (no hangovers) for the elimination final, against Footscray at F-2. Both games it he home and away season were draws.
Accustomed to less than 5 minutes to warm up, the boys had 15 minutes to kill before the starting whistle. A couple stretched the warm up to 10 minutes, then had to rest.
The game was hard and fast and the teams were evenly matched with no score until the last few minutes of the first half. Footscray were lucky and found a couple of gaps in our defence and KEW was down 2-0 at half time.
The Doggies scored a third goal in the opening minutes. The boys were hungry, but Doddsy was voracious. Ignoring his hammy (causing him to run like the Hunchback, Quasimodo) and good, sensible advice to come off the field, he deftly put one in the back of the net.
KEW gets a short corner with only minutes to go. Lighty uses a variation and pushes to the left of the battery. Young Jack Marquardt traps the ball and drives it straight into the net. 3-2!
Sam and Jack both have a shot at goal and an opportunity equalise, but the Doggy defence was solid. The final whistle blew and 2009 is all over for the 7ths. The final result does not reflect the fantastic game played by all the KEW boys.
Thanks to all the supporters who braved the icy conditions at Footscray to cheer the team on.
