Obituary – Robert Alderman
The members of the KEW Hockey Club were deeply saddened by the news of the recent passing of Robert “Bob†Alderman, a loyal and passionate KEW member and father of current KEW player and reigning Pennant B Best & Fairest, Chris Alderman.
Known to team mates as “Lollipop Bob”, Bob enjoyed a long goalkeeper career, playing most of his hockey in B-grade but filling in occasionally but very capably in A-grade. Legend has it that Bob occasionally took the field without goalkeeping pads or a chest guard, which may explain why he played more with the 2nds than the 1sts!
Bob’s KEW playing days go back some 40-odd years as the regular goalie of Clive Beed’s very successful teams of the 70′ and 80′s, until illness forced him off the field and onto the sidelines as a regular, if not frustrated supporter.
He will be remembered fondly by team mates, supporters and friends of the KEW Hockey Club as a rugged, strong and viciously loyal team player and club member. All of those attributes he has proudly passed onto his son. A reliable and steady bloke, he was a regular at Albury Carnivals and a fixture on the Elgar park sidelines.
Bob also served the club in an official capacity as a member of the executive, occupying the position of club treasurer.
The club extends its deepest sympathies and heartfelt wishes to his wife Anne, Chris, daughters Beth and Louise and the extended Alderman family. Bob will be fondly remembered and sincerely missed.
