Mens PB v MCC (R1)

Men’s 2s – Sunday 3.30pm vs MCC

Unfortunately not an ideal start to the season on a day that several players made their debut with the club. Welcome to Matthew Mallinson (hereafter probably only likely to ever be known within the club as the Smiling Assassin), Andrew Bock (Bockie – that’s a given, isn’t it?) and James Nelson (I don’t have a nickname for him but if someone does please let me know urgently as this Nelson thing is going to get pretty confusing this year).

We started the game well and 1-2 down at halftime was actually a little disappointing at that stage of the game. However, by that stage Stevie Gale had come off with a corked
thigh and was not to return. That was really disappointing as Stevie had been playing on MCC’s PJ Weller (an outstanding former national league player) and was winning that
battle. With Stevie gone we were down to the bare 11 and struggled to get through the second half as the heat of the day and lack of interchange became a real struggle.

MCC really got on top of us in 15 minutes of the second half that led to a result that was an embarrassment for us and that I don’t think was reflective of the way the teams will
perform throughout the year.

So on to round 2 with a few players back, a full interchange bench and a positive outlook for the year. We have a really good list of young players and I am highly
confident for a positive season. I think there are several teams playing the “curtain raisers” for us this weekend at Elgar so stick around and support these exciting young
guys at 5pm.
