Mens SL2 v Werribee (R1)
Men’s 1s – Saturday 2pm vs Werribee
To win round one is without doubt the best way to start the year. But to win convincingly is superb. With Ian Rowe back in action and two of the youngest Nelson’s now in the mix, it was always going to be an exciting game to watch.
On a hot and sticky day, skill execution was difficult, and with a 2-0 lead into half time it was evident that both sides were still coming to terms with the conditions and adjusting accordingly.
Due to a lack of concentration, Kew enabled Werribee to score early in the second half providing the home side a glimpse of hope until Changy responded and slipped in his second (fore-stick) goal for the day.
Round one always provides a good indication of a clubs commitment to a thorough pre-season program, and this was especially evident in the last 15 minutes of the game. The power of Zac and Hamish Nelson in the circle devastated the Werribee defence, each bagging a goal in their maiden outing for the KHC Men’s 1st XI. Brilliant effort.
Craig Fairbrother is back, and coaching better than ever.
“Hockey is a game of two halvesâ€
- Solid performances from Mr Chang & Nelsons x2.
- Sharples (Richo) was an immovable object out at left half.
- Charles dealt harshly with any Werribee player that crossed the circle line.
- James Grant was a man possessed and provided a great target up forward.
2-0 lead at half time is the worst score in the history of the game.
Big thank you to the supporters who made the trip out west.
Goal scorers: Chang 2, Grant 1, H Nelson 1, Z Nelson 1.
