Womens PB v Camberwell (R1)

Women’s 2′s – Sunday 12.45pm vs Camberwell

Fire and ice was always on the cards for the Women’s Pennant B opening round, with two ancient rivals pitted against each other.

Battled out on the hallowed turf of the State Hockey Centre, the Kew-girls’ showdown against the Dutch look-alikes certainly lived up to its name. With a new playing structure, Kew’s non-traditional positioning proved problematic early on for Camberwell who were matched by Kew throughout the first half. With scoring opportunities from both teams proving fruitless thanks to strong defensive play on each side, the match remained goal-less into the first break.

Early into the second, Camberwell’s somewhat advanced dexterity saw them take the lead with a short corner goal. However, Kew’s relentless pressure, superior fitness, and fine goalkeeping skills, kept the Dutch at bay for the rest of the match. Unable to answer with a goal of our own, the Pennant B Cumbers went down in a well fought showdown 0-1.

With hockey this hot, don’t miss the mid-season re-match.
