Womens SL2 v Yarra (R1)

Women’s 1′s – Sunday 3.30pm vs Yarra

Things started well….. and ended with a 3 -3 draw.

I guess you could say the stuff in between is a little disappointing (but only because we have such high standards!!). So, to not put a total dampener on the start of the season, I will discuss the positives thus far….

The KEW girls welcome Bill Fuller as coach and George James as Fitness Trainer and Team Manager. Hopefully with these two wonderfully knowledgeable and attractive men at the helm, we are set for a winning season (too much?).

Now, clearly one of our players spent a lot of time in Church over the summer, because her prayers have come true, being offered the opportunity of her lifetime “a full back
who WILL take goal shots” – what is Bill thinking!?

With a man down, and by ‘down’ I mean ‘on a 5 week honeymoon’ (no commitment!) it has given some new faces a chance to shine in the forward line… and shine they did – 2
goals from English and some ridiculously good skills and stretchy tackles from Sarah “she needs a nickname” C-G.

However, the day belonged to our defenders, for their tireless efforts in fending off the Yarra forwards with brilliant tackles and some impressive foot work. It also helps when you have arms longer than the average height of the forwards and I am pretty sure the “I like to lie in the sun in my spare time” tan works a treat on those pale Yarra girls too.

Thanks to Joey who came down to support us on game day and also at training, after working tirelessly with us last season and also to all the friends and family who continuously cheer us on, win or loss – The Gales, Beechams, James’, Evans just to name a few. We definitely appreciate it, and look forward to the rest of the season.

Goals: 2 Emma Fearnley, 1 Katie James.
