Mens SL2 v Geelong (R2)
There was never a dull moment in the round 2 match between Kew and Geelong. If you blinked, you missed something. Probably a goal. Nicknamed “the goal-fest†both sides demonstrated Swiss cheese-like defence as the strikers had a field day, although, Iain Rowe did manage to slip in two cheeky sausage rolls from full back. Noice.
Kew’s structure was brilliant for the first fifteen minutes as the boys raced to a 4 nil lead, but were caught with flat feet in the circle, conceding a pair of short corners which deemed costly for the home side. Geelong converted two straight hits – the first was a bullet inside the right post, and the second an unlucky deflection off Luke Mooney’s stick and over Chucky’s pads. Bummer.
Matty Gale opened the scoring in the second half with an ok tomma into the bottom right, in which Geelong responded within minutes, and followed soon after by a perfectly placed short corner strike from PB. This was the pattern for the remainder of the match, although we should make mention of another really cool Nelson goal romp, this time it was all Zach. It was like a Batman comic book; WACK, BANG! Good goals.
Next Saturday 2pm at Essendon vs. Brunswick will be the Kew boys’ first real test against top four opposition. If we play the whole game like we did for the first 15 against Geelong, it will prove to be a great game to watch.
Looking forward to it.
Goal Scorers: Rowe 2, Bunting 2, Z Nelson 2, Grant 1, M Gale 1, A Gale 1
