Womens M1N v Doncaster (R2)

After being introduced to our new coach for the season, ‘Giddy’, Kew’s Metro 1 North team got off to a flying start capitalising on mistakes made by Doncaster. Many of our players were trying new positions, so communication on the field was essential. Majority of play was directed up the right wing, with Jessie Russel and Jaqui leading the charge.

Our first goal by Mel Hovenan put us in high spirits and gave the team confidence. Claire Morrow, who kindly filled in for this week, scored the second goal after a succession of short passes around the Doncaster goal.

We went into the second half leading 2 – 0. This lead was further consolidated by a great pass from Anna Clements at the top of the ‘D’, then deflected in by Mel Hovenden. The defence was strong all game, with a strong effort put in by Kelly Cutler in full back for the first time since junior hockey. Doncaster only managed to get 2 short corners in the game, which they celebrated with a deafening roar from their captain. The second corner was a straight shot, Which sped past many of our defenders and into the left corner of the goal. We finished 3 – 1 up, in what was an exciting game.

Congratulations to the team who all played outstanding game and thankyou to all those who filled in on short notice. It was lovely to see some familiar faces returning to Kew, if only for the one game.
