Womens SL2 v Yarra Valley (R2)

5 – 0… It’s a good win, it really is – right? Unless you had 42,000 goal scoring opportunities and then 5 goals isn’t looking so good after all. However, the positives are that we actually created those 42,000 opportunities at all. We are getting there, slowly but surely. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day…

Our goals were highly team orientated, with some unselfish play from Emma to give Kirsten her first goal for the season, with a pass around the keeper to an open net.

We dominated up front this week, with the forward line finally clicking and working much more like the well-oiled machine Bill may have hoped for rather than the clunky square wheel of last week.

Our defence and midfield were reliable as always, and have set themselves a very high standard for the rest of the season.

Yarra only getting one shot at Kat all game from a ordinary penalty corner.

Everyone appreciated the home ground (and crowd) advantage. Goals were scored. Flat. High. Fancy. Simple. All pleasing, all the result of hard work “off the ball” by forwards and link players alike. All in all, the girls came off the pitch exuberant and excited (mostly for ciders, or as Lisa puts its, “netballers drinks”) but in retrospect, we know the things we have plenty to work on. But 3 points is better than no points, and it’s definitely better than the 1 point from last week.

And, apparently getting a hat trick means more sprints at training, and the first round at the pub. That is a lesson learnt.

Thanks to Miling and Bambi for their DS efforts, running hard whenever on the pitch, your hard work is very much appreciated. Also, a very impressive turn out from the 1s girls at The Harp Saturday night. Just what I like to see!

Goals: Kirsten Beecham 3, Katie James 1, Emma Fearnley 1
