Mens PE v Hawthorn (R3)
After the previous weeks’ win, it was time to back up that performance and cement ourselves as finals contenders against Hawthorn. The fours put in a solid effort in the first half, with most of the possession and scoring first through Kim Schwarz off a penalty corner. Hawthorn, however, capitalised soon after to draw the match level. At half-time, both teams were in a dead lock, but the boys were in a positive frame of mind to get the job done.
Despite the half time rev up, Hawthorn got the better of us scoring soon after the whistle had been blown. That resulted in the teams structure showing a few stress fractures with the long ball being over utilised. This, poor tackling, a high turnover count and some lazy defensive work when losing the ball across the board allowed Hawthorn to score again.
Quick transitions, honouring the call, and limiting turnovers will be worked on this week to bring the fours back up to the level that is expected.
