Mens SL2 v Brunswick (R3)
Kew 4 def Brunswick 1 @ Brunswick
A sensational second half revival saw the Kew boys get up and demolish the hopes and dreams of a vocal Brunswick crowd, and team.Brunswick came out all guns blazing after coming off 2 convincing losses without scoring a goal. Chucky was busy in the net for the first 45 minutes of the match, denying many shots fired by the Brunswick strikers. Eventually, persistence prevailed and a scrappy goal was knocked in by the home side to see them lead a match for the first time this year. They were delighted, and this was clearly evident in the confidence in which they played (and talked) in.
Kew had to lift in the second half and bring it to the Brunswick defence, who had not yet been tested. Iain Rowe tapped in a nice back stick under the armpit of the Brunswick keeper to level the score at 1 a piece. Kew shifted into second, third and fourth gears and gained significant momentum with a cracking goal by Jimmy Grant as he fly-hit a superbly set-up play by PB and Mike Heaven. Sammy Scott finished off the score card with two nice drag flicks off the short corner battery, sending home a subtle lesson in discipline to the Brunswick camp.
Big efforts in the second half by the initial benchwarmers, Mike Heaven and Lachi Mackay, who literarily grabbed the game by the balls and forced the play into our attacking 25 on numerous occasions displaying maturity and experience beyond their years. Delightful to watch.
Goal scorers: Scott 2, Grant 1, Rowe 1
Yellow cards: Z Nelson
