Womens PB v Greensborough (R3)

Trekking to the country on their trusty steeds, the Pennant B girls arrived in Greensborough for the city Vs country clash that was set to light up the starry sky like a veritable meteor storm. With packed lunches and dinners in tow, the Pennant B chicks knew they needed a win at all costs.Once again the new structure seemed to play havoc with Greensborough’s line up early on, who seemed puzzled by our defensive strategy. Plenty of goals scoring opportunities for both sides ensued, but no conversion at the break.

Nil-all into the second term, and an unlucky break saw Greensborough’s former SL1 captain score from a short corner. This followed shortly with a second goal where a quick breakaway left the Cumbers with a few unmarked players and all of a sudden the darkness seemed to be descending.

However, in true Cumber style, the chicks dug deep and persisted in the circle.

Exceptional teamwork and a yearning for goals saw Jess Evans take one back, and then another. Within 5 minutes it was 2-2 and the game was wide open. And, to Greensborough’s bewilderment, the Kew train kept on coming. In the dying minutes of the match, with a speedy play-on from the top of the defensive circle, down the left side and into Kew’s attacking circle, our opportunity came. Between Bambi’s relentless perseverance and Emma Wallen’s hunger for goals, Kew scored to take the match 3-2.

It seems victory is sweet.

Goals: Jess Evans – 2; Emma Wallen – 1
