Women’s M2S v Footscray (R10)
The Girls were up against Footscray to kick off the 2nd half of the season and it was a challenging game from the start. Both teams making strong forward attacks, luckily our defence stood strong and repelled Footscray. But we were also unable to score after some strong offensive play from Leah & Steph.
This tussle continued until Footscray converted to take the lead. But this didn’t deter the team, they keep pushing to halftime and came of exhausted but hungry for the win and the belief was there. The team knew what they had to do and hatched their plan and went into attack. But again the forwards put pressure on Footscray, but couldn’t quite get that final shot or string that final pass to the sighs of the crowd.
The time was running short but again our defence stood strong and with only minutes remaining Footscray were deep in attack and then Steph charges through and steals the ball and hits top gear. After burning past the half line and the two defenders Steph found herself in a lot of space with only the goalie in front of her. She calmly cruised into the D, picked her moment and slotted it straight past the goalie to tie the score. The crowd went wild and then the final whistle blew. The girls happy with salvaging a draw after a desperate effort for the entire game.
